History

2002: Start

The year 2002 marks the beginning of CEDNA, through the strategic alliance between the Dutch Cora Staats and the Peruvian economist Alberto Carpio. With the purpose of creating a fair civil society they joined their forces. In 2003 the legal formalization of CEDNA took place and the first actions towards implementing of projects with the start of the first health project in 2005.

Initially Jos, Tiny and Paula, the first directors of the foundation Vilcabamba formed a part of the history. Under whose auspices sustained financing is achieved until the present. In 2005 the first CEDNA project – Miski Wawa, a child nutrition project – was executed. Later, foundation Vilcabamba featured a new character, which solely raises funds organically to finance projects of CEDNA.

The first experiences provided a handout for follow-up projects, but the organizational structure has changed a lot ever since, to resolve some difficulties with the first members of the management board and to improve the effectiveness of the projects. After the first project, more funds became available and allowed the first version of the Yachay project – a project to train young people from the Northwest Area of Cusco in a profession.

2005 – 2007: Big Boost

The period between late 2005 and 2007 is considered a period of great momentum; the first Miski Wawa and Yachay projects had their successes and more funds were coming in.

2009: Maturation and Start of Consolidation

In 2009, the board of Foundation Vilcabamba changed, which marked a new era that can be considered the maturity and the start of consolidation of CEDNA. New external personnel from various fields of knowledge helped the organization to grow professionally. Annual audits, updated financial control systems, and project impact assessment have been included six months after the project was completed, with the objective of measuring the impact and making necessary adjustments in the formulation of the next project if necessary.

2013: CEDNA’s 10 Year Anniversary

On July 25, 2013 we celebrated the 10-year existence of CEDNA. This we viewed as an excellent opportunity to strengthen and refresh our beliefs and commitment. We look forward to another 10 years of improving the lives of marginalized and neglected people with low income, because we believe a fairer society is and should be possible.

2016: CEDNA changes its projects to programs and with new methodologies

The projects have been changed to programs with longer duration. The health program to 3 years and the entrepreneurship and job placement program to 2 years. CEDNA adheres to the public policies of the Peruvian government, especially the policy referring to the reduction of malnutrition and anemia and the policy referring to entrepreneurship.

In addition, new methodologies have been implemented such as contests to reach more participation of the target public, and business networks for small producers in rural areas to offer them the best possibilities to market their products.

2018: CEDNA promotes more local strategic alliances

Within its institutional strategies, CEDNA gives greater effort to its activities for local contributions by public and private organizations, to obtain its own resources and more self-sustainability of its projects.

2020: CEDNA with innovation and consolidation towards self-sustainability

From its creation until now, the most important results of the NGO CEDNA are the following:

IN HEALTH:

  • 4,000 children have improved their overall health.
  • 3,000 children have recovered their problems of malnutrition and anemia.
  • 4,000 families have improved their eating and feeding habits.

IN TRAINING

  • 3,000 beneficiaries were inserted into employment.
  • 4,000 beneficiaries have increased their economic income by an average of 30% per month.
  • 1,000 have improved the implementation of their businesses.

Finally, during the more than 15 years of CEDNA´s execution, due to the characteristics of its projects, its methodologies and its articulation with strategic allies, it has managed to position itself in the institutional framework (Ministries and NGOs and the population) that has allowed important results in the growth process, as well as the presence of volunteers from different countries of the world.
